Office 2024 Pro Plus: Download, Install & Activation Guide

To set up Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus, download the installer for your language from Microsoft's own servers, mount the file, run Setup, then enter your 25-character product key in any Office app. The whole process takes about 20 minutes on a normal broadband connection. This guide covers each step, the three activation methods and the errors people hit most often.

Before you start

• A PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Office 2024 does not install on Windows 7, 8.1 or macOS.
• At least 4 GB of RAM and 10 GB of free disk space (the installer itself is about 5.5 GB).
• Your 25-character product key. If you do not have one yet, you can get an Office 2024 Professional Plus licence key delivered by email.
• Any older Office version removed first. Two Office versions on one PC is the most common cause of activation errors.

Step 1: Download Office 2024 Pro Plus from Microsoft

The links below point directly to Microsoft's content delivery network (officecdn.microsoft.com). Each file is a single .img disk image of roughly 5.3 to 5.5 GB that contains both the 64-bit and 32-bit installers, so you do not need a separate download for each.

Step 2: Install Office 2024

1. Uninstall older Office versions. Open Settings, go to Apps, find any existing Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 entry and choose Uninstall. Restart the PC.
2. Mount the download. Double-click the .img file. Windows opens it as a virtual DVD drive; no extra software is needed.
3. Run Setup.exe. For the 64-bit version, which suits almost every modern PC, run Setup.exe in the main folder. For 32-bit, open the Office folder and run Setup32.exe.
4. Wait for the install to finish. It normally takes 5 to 15 minutes. Keep the PC online and do not close the installer window.

Step 3: Activate Office 2024 Pro Plus

Method 1: Enter the product key (most keys)

1. Open Word or Excel. If an activation window appears, enter your 25-character key there.
2. If no window appears, go to File, then Account, and select Change Product Key or Activate Product.
3. Enter the key and select Activate. The Account page should now show Product Activated.

Method 2: Redeem to your Microsoft account (bind keys)

If your order email says the key is a bind or account key, go to setup.office.com, sign in with your Microsoft account and enter the key. The licence is then tied to your account, and you activate Office simply by signing in from File, then Account.

Method 3: Activate by phone

1. In the Activation Wizard, choose I want to activate the software by telephone.
2. Select your country and call the number shown. Microsoft's automated line asks for the Installation ID on your screen.
3. Type the Confirmation ID you are given into the boxes and select Next.

Common problems and fixes

• The key is rejected as invalid. Check that you installed Office 2024 Professional Plus and not Home or Microsoft 365. A Pro Plus key only works with the Pro Plus installer linked above.
• Office asks you to sign in or buy a subscription. A pre-installed Microsoft 365 trial is still on the PC. Uninstall it, restart and install again.
• The .img file will not open. Right-click it and choose Mount. On older Windows 10 builds, right-click, choose Open with, then Windows Explorer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the download itself free?

Yes. Microsoft hosts the installer publicly. You need a valid licence key to activate it; without one, Office runs in reduced-functionality mode and you cannot edit documents.

Should I choose 32-bit or 64-bit?

Choose 64-bit unless you depend on an old 32-bit add-in. It handles large Excel workbooks and long documents better.

Can I move Office 2024 to a new PC?

That depends on the licence type you bought. Keys bound to a Microsoft account can usually be reinstalled on a replacement PC; other key types are tied to the first device. Check your order email or ask our support team before you switch.
