Read This Before You Buy
This is an upgrade key, not a full licence. It only works on a PC that already has Windows 11 Home installed and activated. It is the cheaper route when you already own Home and only need the Pro features.
If you are building a new PC, doing a clean install, or your current Windows is not activated, you need a full licence instead — see our Windows 11 Pro retail licence key. The Four Features People Actually Upgrade For
BitLocker Drive Encryption
Encrypts the entire drive so the contents cannot be read if the device is lost or stolen. If you carry client data, financial records or anything covered by data protection obligations on a laptop, this is usually the reason the upgrade pays for itself.
Remote Desktop as Host
Windows 11 Home can connect out to another PC, but it cannot accept incoming connections. Pro can. If you need to reach your office or home machine from elsewhere, Home simply cannot do it — this is the most common trigger for the upgrade.

Group Policy and Domain Join
Connect the PC to a company domain or Azure Active Directory and manage settings centrally with the Group Policy Editor. If your workplace IT has asked you to join the domain, Pro is a requirement rather than a preference.
How to Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro
- Check your current edition — go to Settings > System > Activation and confirm it reads Windows 11 Home and that Windows is activated.
- Back up anything critical. The upgrade preserves your data, but a backup before any licence change is simply good practice.
- Open Change product key — under Settings > System > Activation > Upgrade your edition of Windows, select Change product key.
- Enter the 25-character key from your delivery email.
- Let Windows apply the upgrade — it verifies the key, upgrades the edition and restarts once. Your files and applications are untouched.
- Confirm — return to Settings > System > Activation. The edition should now read Windows 11 Pro.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to reinstall Windows to upgrade from Home to Pro?
No. The upgrade is applied in place through Settings. Your files, installed programs, desktop layout and settings all remain exactly as they were. Windows restarts once during the process.
Will I lose my files or applications?
No. An edition upgrade changes which features are unlocked, not the contents of your drive. We still recommend a backup before any licence change, as a general precaution.
Is this an upgrade key or a full licence?
An upgrade key. It requires Windows 11 Home to already be installed and activated on the PC. For a clean install or a new build, buy a full Windows 11 Pro licence instead.
Can I use this key on more than one PC?
No. One key upgrades one PC. Buy a separate key for each machine you want to move to Pro.
Will this work on Windows 10 Home?
No. This key is for Windows 11 Home. To move a Windows 10 machine to Windows 11 Pro, you need a full Windows 11 Pro licence rather than this upgrade key.
How long does the upgrade take?
Usually a few minutes. Windows validates the key, applies the edition change and restarts once. Larger installations can take a little longer.
Can I go back to Home afterwards?
Reverting an edition upgrade requires a clean reinstall of Windows 11 Home, so treat the move to Pro as permanent on that PC.
What if the key is rejected?
Email support@softkeyworld.com with your order number and a screenshot of the error. In most cases the PC is on a different edition than expected rather than the key being faulty. If we cannot resolve it, we will replace the key or refund you.
